The transition from ShipConstructor to CADMATIC fundamentally changed Seaspan’s design and manufacturing workflow. Because CADMATIC did not include integrated nesting, the company required an external nesting solution that could process complex shipbuilding geometries while integrating with multiple business systems.

Seaspan evaluated several vendors before selecting Almacam. The software stood out because of its shipbuilding experience, support for both plate and profile nesting, advanced bevel handling, and the ability to integrate independently with CAD and MRP systems without requiring major changes to existing business processes.

Almacam automated several previously manual nesting activities, including bevel interpretation, part spacing optimization, batch nesting, and integration with the MRP system. The software now enables the nesting team to process complex projects more efficiently while tracking production status directly within the nesting environment.

Working closely with Alma, Seaspan implemented several custom automation features, including oversized part detection, automatic bridge generation for unstable parts, bevel conversion tables, and automatic bevel coupon insertion. These enhancements significantly reduced manual intervention and improved production readiness.
