TRUMPF Haguenau: Advancing Industry 4.0 Through Robotic Welding Automation

The Haguenau plant is a key production site within the TRUMPF Group and serves as the company’s global competence center for welding and machining machine frames. It manufactures frames for punching and laser cutting machines supplied to European assembly plants and selected international facilities.

The facility manufactures approximately 1,600 machine frames annually while processing large volumes of steel and welding operations. Production is organized using just-in-time manufacturing with takt-oriented lines, requiring exceptional precision, efficiency, and coordination.

In 2016, TRUMPF launched a robotic welding and offline programming initiative to modernize manufacturing operations. The project focused on increasing automation while improving production flexibility, welding consistency, and operational efficiency.

Automation was implemented not only to increase productivity but also to create a connected manufacturing environment. The initiative supports machine communication, process standardization, and data-driven manufacturing, preparing the plant for full Industry 4.0 integration.

The Haguenau plant has continuously reduced production lead times through organizational improvements, workforce development, and automation. Robotic welding has become a key driver of competitiveness by improving quality, stabilizing processes, and supporting future manufacturing requirements.
